Well in truth: it is a receipt to a link. And the owner of the link (that points to an "original" image) can delete the link at any time 🙃.
Most think if it as selling a digital art piece that has a chain attached to a digital vault where whenever the digital art piece is sold the creator of the art piece gets a commission... but thats not what it really is.
Most of these are scams anyway.
Ex: the big bucks rich folk buy a bad monkey painting, the painting has "perks" attached, such as exclusive access to a yacht for parties, so they pay 3 million dollars for the painting and go to parties on that yacht when ever it is offered. If you bought into that scheme deal at a lower amt say 1 million dollars you later finf out that the invite notif says 4 specific celebs will be there, but when you get there you find out you only get access to certian area of the yacht (and never see the celebs the invite boasts about cuz theyre in the "security controlled vvvip section").
When you get tired of the perk or art you just resell the receipt link [aka art piece] on the nft site to a new "art buyer" and they get that perk now.
💥Its simply stuff for bored rich people.
Other schemes include first right to buy newest fancy expensive nike shoes.
Theres always a perk attached to most all of those nft sales. But the buyer isnt actually buying the art, but they can display the art anywhere, like a large lcd screen as a painting on the wall etc, but the link severs when it is "resold".
Most nft art isnt sold at a high price, and theres environmental people hating in anyone who uses it because it has connection with using power from global computer users to run the system as a web server.
You are better off selling a original or ltd edition or open "digital" art image in your own website for a good price.
Many artists have been getting contacted by people (scammers or scam bots) trying to get an artist to make a nft image fir them or ask you to make one of your pieces an nft so they can buy it. It is a scam and they will take your miney, and probably take your art and turn it into a nft to sell themselves.
Anyone offering to buy your art as an NFT is scamming you, they just want to get your money. Report them as a scammer and block them right away.
